The colors of rainbows are always the same. Starting from the outside, the order is red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet or purple. Rainbows are made when sunlight shines through little rain drops or water. The water droplets divide the light rays making the light waves different lengths. Or when it is raining in a part of the sky and the sun is shining through the other part of the sky does the same a water droplet. If you are trying to see a rainbow your back needs to be facing the sun. Underneath is a picture of a rainbow and the sun shining. In the picture there isn't rain because the water in the air has become a mist. If there is mist and sunlight, there still can a rainbow since there is water and the sun’s rays.

Roadside Puddles
Another type of rainbow is a roadside puddle. A roadside puddle is a puddle made of oil and water from a car. The sunlight shines onto the oil ontop and the water underneath. When the sun shines on the two liquids and the two rays split and then cross. It looks like there is a rainbow in the puddle. Since the two rays are always canceling each other out, it looks like the colors are changing.

Rain is when water falls from the sky. It is one of the elements that you need to see a rainbow. The rain has a cycle that it goes in. The cycle is from ground water, to evaporation, to condensation, to precipitation and then it is back to ground water. It is recycling, using it over and over again. Some people think that there is rain because there is someone crying above or is because of some other reason.

Colors are what we see every day. They are made of light waves. Depending on how big or small the waves are will determine what color we see. If the wave length is really short, you will see a violet color, if the wave lengths are longer it will turn to a reddish color. This is also a reason that you will see the colors change in the roadside puddles. Human can see different colors but some living animals can’t like bats and sharks. Some animals can’t see several colors such as cats and dogs.

Wave lengths: the same as a wave in the sea (only able to see the color) and is the length from the top of one wave to the next.
