Charles Babbage was born in south Lon don on December 26, 1791 and lived until October 18, 1871. Charles Babbage was very smart because he was born with wealthy parents and able to attend the best private schools. Charles Babbage graduated college at Cambridge University to become a 19th century mathematician. After graduating from Cambridge University he later became a professor there. When Babbage was 19 he helped found the Analytical society whose purpose was to transfer European mathematics to English mathematics. In 1816 Babbage was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of London, the oldest scientific society in Great Britain just before he fell into to his career of a mathematician. In June of 1822 he constructed a model of a calculating machine that could perform eight decimal points mathematical equation, 7 years later his calculator got support from the Government to invent a 20-decimal calculator. This was how Charles Babbage’s career started.

Back then computers were any type of machine that could calculate a mathematical equation; this is what Charles Babbage experimented on.His invention was the Difference engine that could calculate up to 31 different digits the Difference engine had 25,000 moving parts and could be used by easily twisting a cogwheel but would simply not work. Another name for the difference engine and was soon to be called the Analytical engine. The Analytical Engine was a more improved thought of the Difference engine. The Difference engine was not yet invented until the electronic age although he spent 6,000 pounds of his own money to help invent this machine. The Analytical Engine When working on the Difference engine Babbage started on more ways to improve it. Briefly he started to more think not just about ways to improve the computer but ways so it could make more calculations. By 1833 funding had run out for the machine and had considered of something far more innovative than computing this machine and calling it the Analytical Engine. The Analytical engine was supposed to be a fully-programed controlled, motorized, digital computer. The machine was intended to contain four components which are the mill, the store, the reader, and the printer.
